Distillery Label Collection – Gordon and MacPhail.

In partnership with a wide array of distilleries around Scotland, Gordon and MacPhail have released “The Distiller Label Collection.” This range has been developed to highlight the unique tastes, ages and strengths of the various distillery labels available to whisky fans around the world.

LONGMORN

Longmorn Distillery was built in 1893 by John Duff (who also founded Glenlossie Distillery) and a partnership of local businessmen. They chose the location between the Glen of Rothes and Elgin for its good water source and access to a railway. Oddly enough, up until 1980, the railway connected Longmorn distillery to BenRiach distillery.

Its name is derived from the Gaelic, Lhanmorgund, which means “the place of the holy man.” This is a reference to the church which once stood on the site .

The original distillery was demolished in 2004 and rebuilt on adjacent site. Production of whisk y recommenced in 2005. The 10 year old whisky you are enjoying during this tasting experience is from one of the first batches created by the new facility.

Nearby to the distillery is Burgie Castle, which dates back to the 16th century. For a short while Glenburgie also produced another single malt, Glencraig.

THE MACPHAIL'S COLLECTION

The MacPhail's Collection is a very small collection of whisky from an exclusive range of distilleries throughout Scotland. There are only 7 distilleries who have been chosen to represend the MacPhails collection: Bunnahabhain, Glen Scotia, Glenglassaugh, Glenrothes, Glenturret, Highland Park and Tamdhu.

Today we are excited to show off the delightful sherry tones of Glenturret Distillery.

GLENTURRET

Glenturret Distillery was previously known as Hosh. It is actually the second distillery to take the name Glenturret and was renamed in 1875, some 20 years or so after the nearby original distillery of that name closed.

Glenturrent claims to be the oldest distillery in Scotland. This claim to fame is based on there being an illegal farm distillery operating on the site from 1775 until when the first official licence was granted to it in 1818.

It is one of Scotland's smallest distilleries with only two stills.  Between 1923 and 1959 the distillery was closed for production. It is situated on the banks of the river Turret, near Crieff in Perthshire. It is tucked away in a steep valley between fields and tree-covered hillsides.

In the days of illegal distilling, this would have been a good hiding place. Today, Glenturret is home to "The Famous Grouse Experience" and is one of the most visited distilleries in Scotland.

MACALLAN

Originally named Elchies Distillery, Macallan was originally licensed in 1824 – one of the first to hold a license in the Speyside region. However, there has probably been whisky made on the Macallan site, a small hill overlooking the Spey near Craigellachie, since the late 1700's. The site being perfect for the bootlegging whisky makers of the 1700’s and 1800s.

Today Macallan is a one of the most well-known Scotch Whisky malts, highly regarded for its sherried sweetness and mature tastes.

Gordon & MacPhail has bottled a series of fine single malt whiskies from Macallan under the Speymalt Collection. This collection has been developed to show the true depth of the Macallan distillery to a variety of whisky connoisseurs.
